Problem

  • Most Spaces on Spatial are designed for passive viewing, with limited interactivity. Only a few creators have attempted 'mini-games,' a challenging task requiring game engine skills and extensive knowledge of the Spatial Unity toolkit.

  • Enterprise clients are hesitant to commit to major deals, doubting Spatial's ability to deliver high-quality graphics and immersive experiences.

Solution

  • Upgrade Spatial's Unity Creator Toolkit to help creators build games faster and easier.

  • Create games in-house to drive platform traffic and showcase Spatial's capabilities.

  • Redesign the homepage to emphasize gaming use cases and highlight Spatial as a premium solution.

Research Insight

"Oh wow, Spaces with "mini-games" have 7x better D1 retention than other spaces"

Quantitative Data

Up until this point, Spatial has primarily focused on use cases such as art galleries, digital presentations, and education. Yet, recently, a few creators took a different path - setting out to build full-fledged games that have captured unprecedented engagement. After the team reviewed the metrics reveal something striking: game spaces are driving retention rates seven times higher than any other space on the platform

Challenge

"How do we drive creators and enterprise clients to develop more "game" spaces?

  • Most Spaces on Spatial are designed for passive viewing, with limited interactivity. Only a few creators have attempted 'mini-games,' a challenging task requiring game engine skills and extensive knowledge of the Spatial Unity toolkit. These technical demands make meaningful interactivity difficult to achieve.


  • Enterprise clients are hesitant to commit to major deals, doubting Spatial's ability to deliver high-quality graphics and immersive experiences. While our pitch decks inspire, the homepage’s 'flash game' aesthetic undermines our positioning as a premium solution, impacting client perception.

Early Feedback:


  • By biasing towards Spatial's games we are demoting organic discovery for other creators on the platform.

  • The category with the highest Space Join % is "recents" ("Jump back in"). Let's aim to float this category up higher
